Working

Since I have now been working at CCP a little over 2 months without updating my blog, I figured I would take this time in my busy schedule (read: lunchtime) to write a few words.

I started at the Atlanta office May 10, 2010. I’ve had more fun here than I can possibly imagine, more than I ever thought a job could be!

I am working on a tool to make creating content in the game more streamlined, and I believe it is pretty awesome, since I barely thought of stuff like this able to happen. I did, but that isn’t important right now :)

I’m also reading Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter right now, and it is pretty amazing.  Working on an MMO based around vampires, I am pretty sure I should be up-to-date on vampire lore (Twilight doesn’t count), especially with all the content in the warehouse that I have skimmed through.  It is a very well-written novel, and it lends itself to be almost believable, but that is what I love most about works of fantasy/fiction is the level of believability I get from some.    I also realize I am off-track.  GOOD LUCK!!

Job Hunt

So, I am currently back in North Carolina, waiting for a response on the internship from CCP, and in the mean-time, trying to find a job in case I don’t get it there.

It’s been a hectic couple of days, and being low on funds has its downsides, but I have been making the most of it.

I have started making a ‘game’ of matching.  Matching binary to hex, to octal and decimal, and it is pretty fun, I will say.  It is intended to spark the math portion of the brain, not really to drill the values into your brain, like some matching educational games.  I want to make something that will help people

I need to stay in the C++ ZONE to have a competitive edge over other job-hunting people :)

School: Complete

Yes, that is correct.  I am finally done with college!!  This this probably the most exciting point in my life so far, because I finally made it!

As for the job hunting, that is going incredibly well.  At a Just Cause 2 release party, I met some employees of CCP Games, and had a blast talking to one AI guy in particular.  We talked about genetic algorithms, navigation meshes, all stuff that I love about AI programming basically.  Well, today I got good news that I passed the CCP programming assessment (the one that 92%-95% of applicants fail apparently), so I was ecstatic to say the least.  I am scheduled to have a phone interview on Monday the 5th, which also happens to be my 22nd birthday :).  I plan on rereading the C++ Primer Plus book just to get a refresher on the generic stuff, and of course, Google absolutely everything that has to do with programming questions.

News!!

In other news, I have been trying to figure out when to move out of my apartment, and with the recent developments of CCP calling me on my birthday, it is doubtful I will move out before then.   I can only hope they provide relocation for me, considering I only have enough to get a moving truck to move with, and no more funds at all.

Anyways, on to programming a tiny game/test app for things I want to work on my own in the future.  More news later!!
